DJ Sniff

Voor dj sniff (Takuro Mizuta Lippit)  is een draaitafel een muziekinstrument. Zijn muziek concentreert zich op de levende reconstructie van fonografisch materiaal – geluid dat is vastgelegd op grammofoonplaten. Hij speelt met de muziek, het geluid, de techniek en het verleden. Dat doet hij met een unieke setup van maatgemaakte hard- en software, één draaitafel en een DJ mixer.
Bovendien is hij concertorganisator voor electronische muziek en onderzoekt hij muziektechnologie. Tijdens zijn studies Kunstgeschiedenis en Filosofie in Tokyo was hij underground DJ. In 2002 verhuisde hij naar New York om verder te studeren aan New York University. Sinds 2007 is hij directeur van Steim, de Stichting electronische en geïmproviseerde muziek in Amsterdam.

To dj sniff (Takuro Mizuta Lippit) a turntable is a musical instrument. His music focuses on the live reconstruction of phonographical material – sound captured on records. He plays with the music, the sound, the technology and the past. To achieve this, he uses a unique setup of custom hardware and software along with one turntable and DJ mixer. He is also a concert/event curator for electronic music and a researcher of music technology.
While studying Art History and Philosophy in Tokyo, he was active as a DJ in the underground electronic music scene. In 2002, he moved to New York to pursue graduate studies at NYU.
From 2007 on he has been Artistic Director at Steim, Amsterdam’s foundation for electronic and improvised music.
